The whole of it sits above the village.
The beds are raised and edged in grey concrete, laid out in a grid with lettuce in some and herbs in the rest, and Delwara starts immediately below — blue and white houses running up the slope, and the Aravallis closing it off behind them.
The table is a single slab of white stone with 2 pale timber armchairs at it, and a second stands under a parasol further in among the planting. You eat inside the garden rather than beside it.
Not everything comes off this roof. The hills around Haldighati, an hour up the road, have turned to growing roses, and some of them arrive here.
