The counter is a slab of dark figured marble on a carved white front, with brass banker's lamps set along it and a copper still standing at the near end.
Timber galleries run above on both sides, so there are people over your head as well as next to you. The walls behind the woodwork are teal damask, which is what keeps the room from going brown.
There is music in the evening, and the bar runs until midnight — the only room on either shore still going at that hour.
