Of the 11 grades here, 5 are inside the walls: rooms and suites off courtyards, 2 minutes from breakfast, the lobby lounge and the pool. The other 6 are villas standing alone in the sand, each with its own pool and its own host or butler. The fort is sociable and cool, with a building around you when the wind gets up. The villas are silent — you will not see another guest unless you walk to one.
Neither is the upgrade. For a first visit of 3 nights, the fort probably serves you better. For a week, a honeymoon, or if you have said 'quiet' more than twice while planning it, take a villa.
These 3 Deluxe rooms are the same room with 3 different outsides, priced a step apart.
Deluxe Garden Room is ground floor: doors onto grass, a battlemented wall, the dunes behind it, and the shortest walk to everything.
Deluxe Balcony Room is upstairs, with a railed balcony and an uninterrupted line down the valley — the best value in the fort.
Deluxe Terrace Room is an upper-floor corner with a proper outdoor room rather than a balcony: a shaded banquette, 2 loungers, space to eat. Pay up to the Terrace only if you plan to use it. Between October and April, you will.
All 6 villas have a private outdoor pool, a cabana or shaded deck, and an outdoor shower. They differ in how many bedrooms they hold, in whether a host or a butler comes with them, and in one case in whether there are children nearby at all.
Royal Pavilion Pool Villa is the only adults-only grade here, and the only one set apart from the resort, half a kilometre out — 1 bedroom, 3 adults.
One Bedroom Anantara Pool Villa is the same idea inside the resort walls, and takes 2 adults and 2 children.

Two Bedroom Family Suite is inside the fort: 178 square metres, a king and twins, a living room and a terrace, and it takes 5 adults and a child.
Two Bedroom Anantara Family Pool Villa is a separate building out in the sand: 304 square metres, its own pool, a butler, and room for 4 adults and 2 children. The suite holds more people; the villa gives them more space and more quiet. It is the only place on this list where the dearer grade sleeps fewer — check it before you book for a large party.
Al Sarab Villa is 853 square metres — nearly twice the size of anything else here — and takes 4 adults in 2 bedrooms: space and seclusion for 2 couples, with a private entrance, an in-villa barbecue and a helipad landing.
Sahra Villa is 489 square metres with 4 bedrooms, and the one to book when there are actually 8 of you. Both include two-way airport transfers for 4, a butler, in-villa breakfast, and a barbecue dinner cooked by a private chef.
