The room takes its name from Château Cheval Blanc's most sought-after year.

You reach it along a channel of still green water, open to a skylight the length of it, with 2 figures made of branches standing at the far end.

Nothing about the approach is quick. Inside, 2 crystal chandeliers hang over round white marble tables and pale leather armchairs, each with a single orange cushion on it. The floor is dark herringbone, the curtains run the full height of the wall, and one tall window opens onto the garden.

The porcelain is part of it. A course arrives on a shallow white dish with a wave for a rim, or in a bowl folded like a leaf, and what is on it takes up very little of either.
