Everything except the 3 Historical Suites looks into the palace gardens — lawns, old trees, the pool, peacocks and the building's own arcades.
The Historical Suites face the other way, out from the front of the palace over 400 years of Hyderabad, 600 metres up, from a private sit-out. Neither is the upgrade. Garden rooms are quieter, and the ones to take in December. The city view is the one people remember, and it is best for about 40 minutes after sunset.
The Palace Rooms and the Luxury Rooms run 50 to 66 square metres, large by any modern standard, because they were rooms in a nobleman's house before they were hotel rooms. A suite adds a separate living room.
The Royal Suite is the smallest of them at 65 square metres — really a generous room with a sitting area in it.
The Grand Royal Suite is where the living room becomes its own room, with a good deal more ceiling above it. If you came to be in the palace rather than in a bedroom, that is the rung to take.
The Nizam Suite is 180 square metres over 2 floors, with a private pool and Jacuzzi, a butler on call and its own way into the J Wellness Circle. There is only 1 of it, and people take it for an occasion rather than choosing it as a room. Getting the date is harder than making the decision.
Palace Room, Garden View and Palace Room, Garden View, Twin Bed are 2 separate rooms here, and so are the 2 s. The bed is not something to ask for on arrival — you choose it when you choose the room, and asking for twins in a double room later may not be possible.

There are 3, at the front of the palace, with wooden floors, antique furnishings and a private sit-out looking over the whole of Hyderabad. The only suite in the house that faces the city rather than the gardens.

The twin-bed room, 55 to 66 square metres in the palace's residential wings, with a canopied bed, painted motifs run round the walls and polished floors underfoot. The double is a separate room with its own name, so the bed is chosen when you book rather than asked for on arrival.

The same 55 to 66 square metres in the residential wings, with one large bed instead of two. Canopied or half-tester depending on the room, hand-painted motifs on the plaster, and the gardens through every window.

A suite of 65 square metres, restored with the original crafts and the original materials — carved four-poster beds, pale green panelling, tall shuttered windows onto the gardens. It is a generous room with a sitting area rather than a suite with a separate living room; that step comes at the Grand Royal.

There are 3 of these, 75 to 103 square metres, and the first suite in the house with a genuinely separate living room. Handcrafted wooden floors, exposed ceiling beams, and windows onto both the gardens and the inner courtyards.

A duplex of 180 square metres, with a private pool and jacuzzi on its own colonnaded terrace, a dedicated butler, and its own way into the J Wellness Circle. There is one of it.
50 m² · The residential wings · The palace gardens view · sleeps 3 + 1 child
A room of 50 to 55 square metres in the residential wings, under the same exposed beams as the rest, with a walk-in wardrobe and a king bed. This and its twin are the only rooms in the palace that take 4 guests.
