Palace Room, Garden View

The bed here is a king. It is the same envelope as the twin: high ceilings, deep window reveals, panelled walls, polished floors, and decorative work redone by hand rather than reproduced. Some of these rooms take a tall upholstered headboard with glazed doors straight onto the garden; others take a pelmeted half-tester with terracotta drapes and a chaise through an arch.

These are rooms in the Nizam's guest house rather than rooms in a hotel that owns a palace. Nothing has been squared off. The proportions are wrong for a modern floor plan and exactly right for the hour after 6, when the light comes in low under the arcade and crosses the whole room.
