The Royal Suites are where the restoration is most obviously the point, and it shows in the joinery: a carved four-poster with a pelmeted canopy, panelled walls in pale green, red-bordered curtains at windows tall enough to stand in, and a writing desk that is a piece of furniture rather than a hotel fitting. Original techniques, original materials.

At 65 square metres it sits inside the Palace Rooms' own range, and what it adds is a proper sitting area inside one volume rather than a second room. What it also gives you is the sense of being in a restored piece of the building rather than an accommodated one. If a separate living room is the requirement, the Grand Royal is the suite that has it.
