Capella Singapore

A resort on Sentosa Island, built around 2 colonial bungalows from the 1880s, with 30 acres of rainforest framed by the sea and a plunge pool in every villa.

Capella Singapore sits on Sentosa Island, just over 10 minutes from the centre of the city. At its heart are 2 restored bungalows from the 1880s, on ground known as Tanah Merah, Malay for red earth. Foster + Partners designed the resort to extend from those 2 buildings into 30 acres of gardens and rainforest, framed by the sea, and it now holds 113 rooms, suites, villas and manors set through the grounds. A Capella Culturist is assigned to every stay, and plans anything from a Mahjong lesson to the evening's dinner reservation.

Each One-Bedroom Villa has its own terrace and a plunge pool 3 metres by 3. Every room has a walk-in wardrobe, a bath, a separate rain shower and 2 wash basins, from the smallest room to the largest manor.

Every manor has its own Manor Culturist, on call 24 hours, and meals can be served in the manor, from a breakfast picnic to a barbecue by the pool. Airport transfers to Changi, 26 kilometres away, are arranged through the Culturist team.

The house

What is here

2 Colonial Manors, Since the 1880s
The 2 Colonial Manors are restored bungalows from the 1880s, redesigned by Matthew Shang Design Office with maps of old Singapore and vintage furniture. Nearby, the Living Room sits in another bungalow of the same decade. British officers of the Royal Artillery once lived there and held their balls there. It now serves afternoon tea, and the Culturists run small workshops in it.
Auriga Spa
Auriga has 9 treatment suites, 4 of them for couples, and separate men's and women's areas with a vitality pool, a herbal steam room, an ice fountain and experiential showers. Treatments draw on Dr. Levy, Margy's Monte Carlo and Biologique Recherche, and Auriga holds a Forbes Travel Guide five-star rating. Open 8 in the morning until 10 at night; treatments run between 9 in the morning and 8 at night.
The Grand Ballroom
A circular ballroom under a glass dome, with a glass sculpture by the San Francisco artist Nikolas Weinstein in the light below it and a curved LED wall of 81 square metres. The Sentosa Rooms open into one hall for 180 guests or divide into smaller rooms, and The Gallery holds up to 100 for a reception.

A Culturist for the Stay. Every guest has a Capella Culturist who plans the stay: A Walk on the Art Side, a Mahjong lesson from a master, or simply the evening's dinner table.

Every room is 77 square metres; the balcony decides the rest

Premier Garden Room is 77 square metres, over the landscaped gardens.

Premier Seaview Room is also 77, over the South China Sea.

Constellation Room is 77 too, with a private jacuzzi on the balcony, over the gardens or the sea.

The suites add a separate living room

Sentosa Suite is 86 square metres, one of 7, with a separate living area and a sea view.

Capella Suite is 100, one of 4 and the larger of the two, also over the sea.

A private plunge pool, for one bedroom or two

One-Bedroom Villa is 133 square metres, with a plunge pool 3 metres by 3 on its own terrace.

Two-Bedroom Villa is 186, with a second bedroom and the same pool.

A manor is a house of your own

Contemporary Manor is 391 square metres, on the fringes of the estate, with a private lap pool.

Capella Manor is 523, on the edge of the estate, with 3 bedrooms and a private pool.

Colonial Manor is 500, in a restored 1880s bungalow, with 3 ensuite bedrooms and its own Manor Culturist.

The small print

One pet, up to 15 kilograms: One pet of up to 15 kilograms is welcome per room. Pets are not left unattended and do not visit the indoor dining rooms, the spa or the swimming pools.
A third adult on existing bedding: Children up to 11 stay free sharing a parent's room. A third adult sharing the existing bedding costs about SGD 100 a night, plus tax and service charge.
