The plunge pool begins at the Lodhi Room

There are 3 grades here with a balcony and no pool; the other 11 have a plunge pool inside the room. That is the single decision to make — the biggest step in price on the list.

The Garden Terrace Room, at 70 square metres, is the last room without one.

The Lodhi Room, at 125, is the first room with one.

The Garden Terrace Suite is the third grade without a pool; it trades the pool for a terrace instead. What you get is not a hot tub. It is a pool set into the floor of the room, the length of one wall, under glass 2 storeys high with carved screens over it. A daybed sits on the stone beside the water. The plunge-pool grades nearly double in floor area for the same reason: the pool is inside the room, so the room has to be bigger.

3 room sizes, and only one is small here

The Executive Room is 51 square metres and the Garden Terrace Room is 70.

Every plunge-pool room — the Lodhi Room, the Lodhi Deluxe Room and the Lodhi Premier Room — is 125.

The Lodhi Room sits on floors 1 to 3 over the lawns.

The Lodhi Deluxe Room sits on floors 4 to 6, with a bigger dressing area.

The Lodhi Premier Room sits above that. Nothing between them changes but the floor and what is in the window.

Only the highest rooms see Humayun's Tomb

Only the high rooms have it.

The Lodhi Premier Room is the grade sold on the view over the treetops to the dome, with Nizamuddin village behind it and the Delhi Golf Course to one side.

The Lodhi Premier Suite, on the 7th and 8th floors, gets the same view. Everything below that looks into the garden instead — the lawns, the water channel, the courtyard. That is quieter, and in the middle of Delhi, a rarer thing to have outside your glass.

One bedroom or two, and the names do not tell you which

Only 4 of the suites have one bedroom.

The Lodhi One Bedroom Suite is 172 square metres.

The Garden Terrace Suite is 181, and is the one suite with a terrace and a kitchenette rather than a plunge pool.

The Lodhi Signature Suite is 251, with the bedroom behind its own door at the far end.

The Verandah Pool Suite is also 251, laid out as one long studio with no door at all. Another 3 have two bedrooms, one at each end of a shared living and dining room.

The Lodhi Suite, the Lodhi Deluxe Suite and the Lodhi Premier Suite are all 223 square metres, and the only thing separating them is which floor they sit on. On request, 3 of the one-bedroom suites open into something larger: the Garden Terrace Suite and the Lodhi Signature Suite become 2-bedroom apartments, and the Verandah Pool Suite becomes a 3-bedroom one, plunge pool included. No room here sleeps more than 2 adults, so a larger party is arranged with us rather than booked off the page.

What every room already has

A super king bed is standard from the Executive Room to the grandest suites. It runs 80 inches by 80, on a Sealy Posturepedic mattress with a pillow top and goose-down pillows. Every room also has a fully stocked private bar, an electronic safe, USB charging, a smart television with streaming services, a selection of teas, and an air purifier.

Concierge and room service run around the clock, with housekeeping twice a day, express laundry, papers on request, and the tennis courts, squash courts and gym at no charge. What changes as you climb is the floor area, whether the pool is in the room, how many bedrooms there are, and what is outside the glass.
