Luxury Suite with Plunge Pool is 55 square metres, and its court is walled and screened in jaali: you see nobody, and nobody sees in.
Deluxe Suite is 61, with the better sitting room, and it looks onto the courtyard gardens everyone shares.

At 45 square metres this is a generous entry room, and an unusual one in a house this small: nobody here had to cut a big room into two small ones, because the building was somebody's residence and these are the rooms it had. Tall windows onto the gardens, a writing desk in front of one of them, and the quiet that comes of having Rambagh's 47 acres on the other side of the wall, absorbing everything.

The bed faces straight through glazed doors into a walled court of its own — a plunge pool along one side, jaali screens at the edge, a day bed under an umbrella, and a wall high enough that none of it is anybody else's business. Tea arrives on the terrace without being rung for. It is the room the house is worth booking for.

A bed chamber and its own sitting room, divided by a matched pair of dark timber doors inlaid with gold quatrefoils that are the best single detail in the house. The parlour has a wingback chair, a writing table and a window onto the gardens; the bathroom is marble and brass. No private pool — this is the room for a longer stay rather than a hotter one.

What is reliably better here is the aspect: the long garden view or the courtyard, rather than whatever was left over. Ask for a corner room; 3 or 4 of them have windows on two walls, and the staff know which.

Two bedrooms across 142 square metres, and here that means one apartment rather than two rooms sold together: a drawing room in the middle, a bedroom at either end, and a bathroom to each. It is the arrangement two couples travelling together actually want and almost never find, because most hotels build it by unlocking a connecting door. This one was designed as a whole.

The principal apartment of the residence: 169 square metres at the front of the house, two bedrooms, a drawing room that seats 12 and a dining room that seats 8.
