A timber boardwalk leaves the beach and runs out over clear turquoise water to a low pavilion on stilts, wind towers along its roof.
Once you are at the table the Gulf is on every side. The table is yours for about two hours.
The pier does a second thing at the end of the day. Onda is a floating pod off it, open from 5 in the afternoon, where the drinks are cocktails and the food is Italian and small, and the Burj Al Arab stands across the water while the light goes. At weekends it runs until 1 in the morning.
