Conrad Singapore Marina Bay

Conrad Singapore Marina Bay is a cream tower of 31 floors beside the Suntec convention centre, with CONRAD in red letters at the top. Inside, a curved marble staircase winds down through the lobby under a chandelier of gold rings. A red sculpture named Turbulence stands at the foot of the stairs, 5 metres of steel blocks welded at angles that catch the light. The walls around it carry part of the hotel's collection of more than 3,400 works of Asian contemporary art.

Every room is at least 40 square metres, and most share one plan: a king bed or two singles against a mirrored wall, a sofa along the window, a round table for breakfast. What changes is the height. Premium rooms start at floor 10, the View, Family and corner rooms at floor 17, and the Executive rooms at floor 26. The corner rooms are 43 square metres, with a window seat running the length of the glass and a view that reaches round the side of the building. Every room has TWG tea, a Nespresso machine, and a marble bathroom with a soaking tub and Byredo Mojave Ghost.

The concierge plans outings of 1, 3 or 5 hours. A guided bicycle ride along the bay takes 3, past the Helix Bridge, Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Barrage, and so does a mahjong lesson with a professional teacher. The 5-hour outings go further: a feng shui walk through Marina Bay and Suntec City, or an afternoon at the Chinese Theatre Circle in Chinatown, where guests are invited onto the opera stage.
