The tea list runs to 8 headings, from Darjeeling and Assam through the Chinese and Japanese leaf to the tisanes.
One blend is made for this room alone: The White Lotus, silver needle white tea with lotus and rose petals, vetiver, cinnamon, cardamom, bergamot, jasmine and cranberry.
The food is not only tea food. A full Italian menu sits behind it, antipasti through to the dolce, beside the toasties and the street chaats people come back for.
In the evening a pianist plays and a singer works the room. The window fills with the lights of ships moving on the harbour. Afternoon tea comes 3 ways: the buffet on its own, the buffet with a princely-states selection and sparkling wine, or champagne with everything brought to the table.
