The St. Regis Venice fronts the Grand Canal at San Marco 2159, a 4-minute walk from Piazza San Marco. Guests arriving by boat step onto the hotel's own pontoon, the ordinary way in from the water here. Stone columns and balconies front the canal outside; behind the hotel runs Calle XXII Marzo, a street of boutiques, contemporary art galleries and the Gran Teatro La Fenice opera house. The hotel holds 124 rooms and 39 suites in total.

The ladder runs 16 grades in 3 tiers. The 6 rooms — Deluxe Guest Room, Superior Deluxe, City View Room, Partial Canal View Room, Grand Canal View and Terrace Grand Canal View — run 27 to 35 square metres, and only the last of the 6 carries a private terrace. The next 5 are suites with a separate living room and 1 bottle of champagne on arrival: Astor Suite, Venetian Suite and St. Regis Suite hold no canal view, at 40, 50 and 60 square metres; Roof Garden Suite adds a private terrace on the top floor with a partial view of the canal, at 65 square metres, and Grand Canal View Suite looks straight onto the water, at 63. The top 5 add the house's own welcome ritual: a Bloody Mary named Santa Maria, a restocked minibar, a private sabrage and a 3-course dinner served in the room. Terrace Grand Canal Suite is 57 square metres with its own terrace; Monet Suite is 80, with 1.5 bathrooms and a walk-in closet; Santa Maria Suite is 62, with a terrace and a dining area on the hotel's top floor. Presidential Suite spans 150 square metres across 2 bedrooms, and Penthouse Suite, at the top, spans 158 across 3 bedrooms and 3 terraces, on its own private access floor.

Every room comes with a St. Regis butler and evening turndown. The concierge arranges the rest: a private tour of the Berengo Studio's glass furnaces on Murano, an excursion aboard a Riva across the Venetian Lagoon, or a gondola ride through the back canals. Every day at 5 in the evening, a saber opens a bottle of champagne in the Gran Salone, the house's own version of a ritual Napoleon is said to have started on the battlefield. Transfers to Marco Polo Airport, about 17 kilometres away, or to Santa Lucia railway station, are arranged in advance.

Gio's takes its name from San Giorgio Island, the view straight across the water from its own terrace on the Grand Canal. Executive Chef Giuseppe Ricci built the menu from his 2 homes: the bold flavours of his native Puglia, and the refined technique he picked up over years working in Veneto. A private room named for the Monet paintings on its walls seats up to 10 for a table apart from the main dining room, and a table set on the terrace itself, right at the water's edge, is kept for anniversaries and proposals.

The St. Regis Bar runs contemporary Italian cocktails and food indoors through the colder months, then moves outdoors onto Ginori Terrace as the weather turns, its own view running from San Giorgio Island to Punta della Dogana and Santa Maria della Salute. An Italian afternoon tea is served here in Ginori 1735 porcelain, and the bar's own Bloody Mary, Santa Maria, is named for the basilica directly across the water, a nod to bartender Fernand Petiot's original 1934 recipe.

The Valmont Spa. Valmont Spa runs a menu of body scrubs, facials, massages and fitness counselling, from short beauty treatments to longer therapies. Every visit is by appointment.

The Fitness Centre. Technogym equipment fills the fitness centre, complimentary to every guest and open 24 hours a day: cardio machines, an exercise bike, free weights, strength machines and treadmills.

Ginori Terrace. The St. Regis Bar moves outdoors here as the weather allows, its brown and beige umbrellas set over a view across the Grand Canal toward San Giorgio Island, Punta della Dogana and Santa Maria della Salute.

The Berengo Glass Experience. A partnership with Berengo Studio on Murano opens its gallery and its glassblowing furnaces to a private tour, arranged through the concierge.

Weddings and Events. 10 function rooms cover 1,354 square metres in total, the largest holding 150 people. The Canaletto Ballroom, styled after the hotel's own Belle Epoque history with iron-leaf patterns and mirrored walls, opens onto its own Italianate garden; the Library and the Astor Boardroom serve smaller meetings and private events. Outdoors, Ginori Terrace and a handful of private terraces host receptions and weddings above the water.
