You arrive under two white towers that lean apart around a steel fountain shaped like an open fan, the Conrad name set high on one tower. Through the doors the building opens all at once: 12 floors of guest corridors ring a skylit atrium, a chandelier of angled glass rods dropping the full height of it to a lantern-lit pool at the bottom. The architect was John Portman, and the atrium was his signature: the whole hotel is built around it. Ion Orchard is 700 metres away, the Singapore Botanic Gardens 1.4 kilometres, and Orchard Boulevard's MRT station a 5-minute walk.
Every room has the same palette: soft neutral colours, botanical prints inspired by Singapore's greenery, and floor-to-ceiling windows behind folding timber shutters. Every room and suite has a Nespresso machine, a filtered water dispenser and a locally blended sleep tea. Every bathroom has Byredo amenities and a walk-in rain shower; the King Conrad Suite adds a bathtub and a steam shower. Many rooms open onto private balconies above the city: 2 on each Deluxe Balcony Suite, 3 on the Two Bedroom Balcony Suite and the King Premium Suite.
Self-parking is free for hotel guests, and valet costs about SGD 20. There is no airport shuttle; Changi is 24 kilometres away, about 30 minutes by car. Pets are welcome, up to 2 per room at 34 kilograms each, for about SGD 285 a stay. Guest rooms are non-smoking, and there is a smoking area on Level 1.

The Outdoor Pool. A circular pool set among planting, city towers standing over the fence on every side, with white canvas umbrellas and teak day-beds along the deck.
Fitness and the Salon. The fitness centre is open 24 hours, with Technogym equipment. Shun Sakurai, the salon on Level 1, is run by its owner, Shun, with stylists who worked in salons in Japan and Singapore. It does haircuts for men and women, blow-dries and make-up.
