The Oberoi Rajvilas sits on 32 acres on Goner Road, 10 kilometres from central Jaipur and about 15 kilometres from the airport, roughly 30 minutes by road. It is built in the shape of a Rajasthani fort rather than a hotel — reflection pools, sandstone courtyards, and a 308-year-old Shiva temple still standing inside the grounds, predating the resort by centuries. Long covered walkways of scalloped stone arches link one courtyard to the next, and a pair of carved marble elephants stands at the gate. Peacocks walk the lawns freely, and the gardens run to bougainvillea, gulmohar and flame trees that colour whole corners of the property through the year. Jaipur, Agra and Delhi together make the Golden Triangle, and this house sits at one point of it.
