The scale is possible because this is a new building on an open site at Amer rather than a converted palace hemmed into a city — nobody had to fit it inside walls that already existed, and it shows in the proportions rather than in the decoration. A private terrace runs the full length of the suite facing the hills, and Amer Fort is visible from the end of it on a clear morning.
