Villa
The Pa-Ta-Pea were the clan who built out of the ground they stood on, and this villa takes that literally — rounded earth walls, clay surfaces, a thatched cone of a roof doubled over itself, and the whole thing sitting on the forest floor rather than up on stilts. It is the lowest, most enclosed and most shaded villa here, and in April that is a real advantage. There is no sea from it and only glimpses of the rest of the resort. What you get instead is stream noise, tree ferns at eye level, and nobody able to see in.
Inside, one bedroom, with a four-poster and a super king or two twins as you prefer. The bathroom is the part people remember: a stand-alone black stone tub, a monsoon shower indoors, and a second rain shower outside in a walled court open to the sky. A hanging rattan chair on the deck, a double vanity, a 55-inch screen you will not turn on. It takes 2 guests, and 2 only.
