Lily Pool Duplex

The one villa here with a staircase in it, and the plan is the reason to take it. Downstairs is a living area with planters' chairs and a writing desk, a dining table for two set into an arched window recess with a cushioned seat, a powder room with a shower stall, and folding doors onto a deck with the same heated pool and lily pond arrangement the other Lily Pool villas have. Upstairs is a single spacious bedroom with a large double bed, a full bathroom with a tub and a separate shower, and a private balcony looking down over the pool and out into the canopy.

Putting the bedroom upstairs does something the single-storey villas cannot: two people can keep completely different hours without negotiating, and the balcony at 6 in the morning — above the mist rather than in it — is the best half hour this villa sells. The catch is that the second bathroom downstairs is a powder room with a shower rather than a full one, so a party of 4 shares more than the numbers suggest. There are 4 on the whole estate.
