The Vaidyasala. The Ayurveda centre, and the reason to book it is the physician rather than the treatment list: a resident doctor prescribes against your constitution before anybody touches you, which is the difference between Ayurveda and a massage with oil in it. Abhyanga is the 75-minute full-body treatment. Shirodhara is a warm stream over the forehead for 45 minutes, and the one to have if you have been sleeping badly. Pizhichil and Navarakizhi are the 90-minute serious ones. Prices are stated when you book.
The Sidapur Coffee & Culture Museum. A heritage building on the estate given over to two things that turn out to be one thing: how coffee came to Kodagu, and what that did to the people who were already here. Open from 11 to 1. Attached to it is Coffeeology, a session at noon where a barista works through preparations from around the world and you drink all of them — better than it sounds after two days of the estate's own Sidapur blend, because it is the first time you taste it against anything else.
The Cauvery, and a Coracle on It. The river runs along the estate, and the way to meet it is the local one: a coracle, a round basket of a boat that a man spins with a single paddle while you sit in the bottom of it and try not to think about the physics. It runs 45 minutes, morning or late afternoon, up to 4 people, charged by the boat. It does not run from June to September, when the Cauvery is in spate and you watch it from the bank instead.
The Reading Lounge, and the Coffee in It. Built on stilts over the organic paddy at the bottom of the estate, open on all sides, with the coffee going up the slope behind it. Sidapur — the estate's own blend, grown here and roasted here — is poured free all day, and there is wi-fi if you insist. It is the one room on the property with no purpose other than sitting, which is why it is the room people end up in.
For Children, and for the Drivers. There is an activity centre with games and things to make, and the family pool has a child-safe shelf and is kept for families with children in it. A child here means 6 to 11. The kitchen will cook anything an infant wants but keeps no formula or packaged baby food, so bring it. And one thing worth knowing if you are driving down from Bengaluru: the estate feeds and houses drivers free, in their own quarters with their own recreation, which is not the norm.
