The Maharaja Suite

These were Umaid Singh's personal rooms and then his successors', and they are laid out the way a man lived rather than the way a hotel plans: a bedroom, a sitting room to receive in, a dining room next to it, and a long balcony running the length of the whole thing over the inner courtyard. The suite is 422 square metres. Frette linen, L'Occitane in the bathroom, and a spa and steam room inside it, so the treatment comes to you.

The balcony is the part you will remember. It looks down into a court of carved chittar sandstone 3 storeys deep, and from up there the palace stops being a building you are inside and becomes one you are standing over. Breakfast is served on it. So, if you ask, is dinner.
