André Fu designed all 117 rooms here, on the upper floors of a tower over Pacific Place, connected directly to the Admiralty MTR.

The Sky Lounge on level 49: a double-height room with an open fire set in a tall limestone chimney breast, tweed sofas and green velvet armchairs on either side of the aisle, and the wooded hillside through glass on both sides.

Upper House sits on the upper floors of a tower that rises straight out of Pacific Place, in Admiralty. André Fu designed all 117 rooms and suites in it, in bamboo, limestone and pale timber, with the feel of a private residence. The tower opens straight into the Admiralty MTR interchange, with Hong Kong Park at the door and Central a few minutes beyond it.

At dusk in a harbour-facing room the windows run floor to ceiling and the Kowloon skyline lights up across the water. Every room has a freestanding limestone bathtub, and high in the building it stands at the glass, facing the same view as the bed. Studio 70 and Studio 80 are single rooms of 68 and 78 square metres. Upper Suites is 114, on a corner, with glass down 2 full sides. Penthouse and André Fu Suite are both 182 — 2 bedrooms in one, 1 bedroom and a spa room in the other.

One team, called Guest Experience, answers everything here. Book an Upper Suite and check-in happens in the room itself. Upper House keeps its own cars for the airport run, which takes about half an hour.

The house

Salisterra's dining room looks out over Victoria Harbour under a wide double ring of hanging glass shades. Ricardo Chaneton, of the Michelin-starred MONO, is the kitchen's culinary advisor and wrote the menu it cooks from, built on coastal Spanish and wider Mediterranean produce. A bar stands at one end of the room, open long after the kitchen has closed.

An open stepped corridor on level 6 climbs out to The Lawn, a walled garden screened from the towers by a hedge, with pale timber sofas under white parasols and turf laid between the flowerbeds. It is a garden bar: picnic-style cocktails and garden bites by day, candle lanterns along the wall after dark.

Green Room is a small backstage-inspired lounge on level 49, beside Salisterra, built for quiet conversation over cocktails that read simply and taste complicated. From this side of the tower the room catches the sunset over Victoria Harbour, and the light settles into a golden last hour before the city's own lights take over.

What is here

The All-Hours Gym. Open 24 hours, fitted with Technogym equipment and free weights, with a personal trainer available on request.

Wellness, Brought to the Room. Treatments are given in the room: massages, facials, nail treatments and styling, with an aromatherapy massage as the signature and a detoxifying organic facial beside it. Run a bath in the limestone tub afterwards. Through the year, outside specialists take up residence with their own studio on site — longevity therapies, movement and hot sculpt classes, chiropractic, and traditional Chinese medicine.

The Maxi Bar. Every room has a Maxi Bar, fully stocked and free, with unlimited filtered water beside it. An espresso machine with its own box of teas and infusions, and a dual-temperature wine fridge, are standard in every room.

Up Close, in the Sky Lounge. A double-height room on level 49, an open fireplace set into a tall chimney breast between two banks of sofas. It hosts Up Close, the house's own series of talks with cultural tastemakers in art, design, fashion and wellness.

Getting Around. The tower connects directly into the Admiralty MTR interchange and sits above Pacific Place, with the tram and Central a short ride away.

Choosing between the two studios

Studio 70 is 68 square metres, one room, with a freestanding limestone bathtub in the corner glass; the harbour view is its own category, on level 38 and above, and lower rooms look to the mountain instead.

Studio 80 is 78, with a separate dressing room, a desk in the window bay, and a king bed or a pair of twins chosen when you book.

Upper Suites is the corner room

Upper Suites is 114 square metres on a corner, level 38 and above, with a separate bedroom and living room and glass down 2 full sides — 270 degrees of Victoria Harbour. The bathroom has a marble double vanity, a walk-in rain shower and the same limestone tub as the studios.

One size, two very different rooms

Penthouse is 182 square metres, with 2 bedrooms, 2 king beds and room for 4.

André Fu Suite is the same 182 for 2 people: 1 bedroom, a dining room and a spa room of its own, and the only suite anywhere that carries the designer's name.
