The bay is the room. It opens off the bedroom through a plastered arch and is painted a colour the bedroom is not — rose in one, sea-green in the next — with a glass lantern hung at the centre and two chairs drawn up to a round table under it. Windows on 3 sides. What you are looking at is working water: the anchored freighters, the launches going out to Elephanta, and from about 5 the light arriving off the sea rather than through the glass.

It is 33 square metres, exactly what the city-view version measures, and nothing is added to it but the sea — worth knowing before you pay for it. What comes with the room is quiet: a butler on the telephone, tea and coffee made in the room, and a minibar stocked if you ask and left empty if you do not. Two adults and a third guest is the ceiling.
