The name comes from the pier itself.
Locals called the 1933 Clifford Pier Ang Teng Beh Tao, Hokkien for 'red lantern pier', after the red oil lamp that hung from it to warn ships entering the harbour.
The view comes with the name: the pool in front, and the 3 towers of Marina Bay Sands directly across the water.
