It is an apartment rather than a large room, and the difference shows in the plan: a drawing room, a dining room and a bedroom, each of which you enter rather than walk through.

The drawing room runs across pale marble with a mirrored screen down one wall and a buttoned duck-egg chair between two sofas. The dining room takes 8 at a long dark table under a painting of horses. The bedroom behind is the quietest of the 3 — a slim four-poster, a curved cream sofa at its foot, a bordered rug on dark boards.

There is one of them. It goes out perhaps 100 nights a year and is held the rest of the time. If you want it, the concierge will tell you honestly whether it is going to be free.
