Suite
There is a whirlpool sunk into a timber deck in a courtyard walled with white picket screens, under a green-striped awning, and nothing in the building looks into it. It is a strange thing to find behind a Lutyens facade and it is entirely the reason to take this suite.
Inside is 66 square metres arranged the other way round from the Luxury Suite: the bedroom is the larger half, with a teal cover on the bed against a mirrored wall, a coral Persian carpet, and the courtyard showing through the glass at the end of it.
The sitting room behind is small and clubbable: a tan Chesterfield, a chessboard already set out, an old map framed on green panelling. It is the oddest room at The Claridges, and the one guests come back for.
