Palace Room, Lake View, Twin Bed

Two single beds, held from the moment you book rather than asked for at the desk. The Palace Rooms are the ones people photograph and cannot afterwards describe, because there is too much in them to list: hand-painted panels floor to ceiling, mirrored insets that catch the window, a different palette in each room. Nothing in here is a scheme applied to 20 keys. Somebody decorated this room, once, for itself.

It is a metre larger than a Luxury Room, and the metre is not what you are paying for. A Palace Room takes a third adult, which the smaller rooms do not, so this is where a family of 3 ends up — and that it is also the prettier room is luck rather than planning.

The lake is on the window side in every one of them. Ask which room you have been given before you arrive; the staff know them by their colours and will tell you.
