At 50 square metres this would be a suite in most of Asia, and it is the bottom rung here. The plan is one room done properly rather than a small room dressed up: a king against the long wall, a working desk, and a daybed set into the window deep enough to sleep on. The joinery is the tell — the minibar is a cabinet, the wardrobe is panelled, and nothing has the moulded plastic that gives away a chain build. Pale stone in the bathroom, twin basins, a tub, Montroi in the dishes.

The glass runs the full height and the sill is low, which is what makes the daybed work. Half of these face the Burj Khalifa; the rest look across the city towards the creek, which is the better view on a hazy day. Breakfast at Aelia is in the rate, and so are both pools and the Movement Studio.
