This is 3 suites made into one residence, and the thing that makes it a residence rather than a large suite is the majlis: a proper Arabian reception room, where you receive people who are not staying with you. Behind it a formal dining room and a full working pantry, so the kitchen can cook for a table here rather than wheel it in.

Hot-tub bathrooms, Spanish marble and silk throughout, 3 bedrooms, and 180 degrees of Gulf across the terrace. It is what the palace was designed to do before it was a hotel.

The room

The majlis — low patterned seating round three sides of a domed room beneath a crystal chandelier, an arched niche with lamps at the centre and pilasters between the panels.

The private dining room: a long table laid for ten under a crystal chandelier, high-backed carved chairs, framed prints on the panelling and gilt standards in the corners.

A bedroom of the suite: the same shell-crested headboard as the rest of the Palace Suites, a column beside an arched terrace door standing open to a hazy view over the rooftops of the city, and a bench at the foot of the bed.
