Danieli, Venezia sits on the Riva degli Schiavoni, the waterfront promenade a few minutes' walk from Piazza San Marco. The hotel is 3 palaces joined into one: Palazzo Dandolo, built in the late 1400s as the private residence of Doge Enrico Dandolo; Palazzo Casa Nuova, once the city's own treasury, added in 1855; and Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, added in 1950. Giuseppe Dal Niel converted the first palace into a hotel in 1822 and gave it his own nickname, drawing Byron, Balzac, Dickens and Proust through its doors over the century that followed. The whole property reopened on 1 June 2026, after a restoration led by French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon that reset the colour palette to the lagoon's own skies and worked local glass, terrazzo and marble back into every room. The lobby itself is unchanged in shape: a 4-storey atrium under pink marble columns and Murano glass chandeliers, with the hotel's own golden staircase still climbing through the middle of it.
The room ladder runs 17 grades across the 3 palaces, and every size below is a range rather than a single figure — the buildings were never laid out as a hotel from the start, so no 2 rooms are quite the same shape. Superior Room, the smallest, runs 22 to 27 square metres; Doge Dandolo Royal Suite, the largest, is 148, with a fresco painted in the 18th century by Jacopo Guarana over the bed. Between the two sit 5 guest rooms, 6 suites with a sitting room of their own, 3 further specialty suites named for the palazzo's own history, and 3 accessible rooms set together in Palazzo Casa Nova. Most look over the surrounding palaces and the laneways between them; every suite from Dandolo Suite up looks at the lagoon instead.
The concierge arranges every arrival and departure by water, and reaches further into the city on request — a private guide, a restaurant table, an evening at the opera. Housekeeping comes twice a day, with a turndown in the evening and an overnight shoeshine left outside the door. A water taxi waits a few steps from the front entrance, running around the clock, whatever hour a guest needs to leave.

Bar Dandolo works out of the lobby of the 15th-century Palazzo Dandolo, the room the hotel was built around, with a pianist playing through the afternoon and into the night. Coffee in the morning gives way to cocktails after dark, in the same marble hall guests have been sitting in since 1822.
The Golden Staircase. The 4-storey atrium at Palazzo Dandolo is built around a staircase Venetians have called golden for two centuries, carried up on pink marble columns and lit by a run of Murano glass chandeliers overhead. It is the room every guest passes through, whichever of the 17 grades they are staying in.
Arriving By Water. Marco Polo Airport is about 12 kilometres away, roughly 40 minutes by a private car to the airport pier and a water taxi on to the hotel's own dock. A second water taxi rank waits a few steps from the front entrance, available around the clock through the concierge, for anything shorter than the airport run — a trip to Piazza San Marco, or across the lagoon to Murano or Burano.
Venice, Arranged by the Concierge. Beyond the ordinary transfers and dinner reservations, the concierge builds outings that need a Venetian to arrange: rowing lessons in the city's own standing style, a sail on a vintage fishing vessel, a tour of the lagoon's smaller islands, an introduction to the tidal floodgates that hold Venice back from the sea, and a walk through palace gardens that stay behind their own walls the rest of the year.
