The Ocean Queen with club access, which for a family of 4 is the most useful room here below suite level. Two queens, 45 square metres, the balcony on the Gulf, and a bathroom with a separate tub and a walk-in shower.

The lounge is what makes it work with children in the room. Breakfast is unlimited and served somewhere quiet rather than in the main buffet hall; afternoon tea covers the gap that usually ends in room service; and the club beach is calmer than the two public ones. Children get a gaming card, and the marine-animal credit is per person, so it counts 4 times over.

The room

The way in: IMPERIAL CLUB lit in bronze letters on a suede wall, backlit onyx panels either side of the portal, and past them a stone desk with one person behind it and a white orchid standing at each end.

The Imperial Club lounge: three rings of cut glass hung one under another over cane armchairs at marble-topped tables, fluted screen walls in gold and cream down one side, and the club's own name lit on the panel at the far end.

A quieter corner of the Imperial Club Queen — Ocean View room: the bed's edge under a tall rectangular mirror, a cream armchair with orange and teal cushions, a round table set with a book and a drink, and open sea through the glass.
