Do not book this for the room. It is the Ocean King — bronze headboard, coral carpet, balcony over open water. What changes is everything around it.

The lounge sits high in the tower with the sea filling its windows: unlimited breakfast rather than a voucher, afternoon tea through the middle of the day, and drinks with canapés as the light goes. There is a private stretch of beach with its own service, a credit per person toward a marine animal experience, an extra 30 minutes on any hour-long AWAKEN treatment, and a gaming card for children. On a resort where breakfast is charged by the head, that adds up faster than the fare gap suggests.

The room

The Imperial Club lounge: three rings of cut glass hung one under another over cane armchairs at marble-topped tables, fluted screen walls in gold and cream down one side, and the club's own name lit on the panel at the far end.

The way in: IMPERIAL CLUB lit in bronze letters on a suede wall, backlit onyx panels either side of the portal, and past them a stone desk with one person behind it and a white orchid standing at each end.
